When asphalt pavement weakens or diminishes due to weather, age, or lack of routine maintenance, it may seem like it’s the end of its lifespan and time for a costly full replacement of your parking lot or drive. Good news, it may not be. Depending on the extent of the damage, you may be able to expand the existing pavement’s lifetime by simply resurfacing the existing pavement with an asphalt overlay.
Contact the experts at Superior Asphalt, Inc. who will take the time to assess the damages to the existing surface and ensure that resurfacing the pavement is the best, most cost-effective solution.
How to Determine if Asphalt Resurfacing is an Option:
- The foundation beneath the asphalt surface is still sound.
- The asphalt surface is less than 20 years old, and cracks in the pavement are smaller than a quarter-inch wide.
- Less than 30% of the asphalt surface is in need of repair.
Preparing For An Asphalt Overlay: The first step usually involves milling the existing pavement.
The top layer of the asphalt surface will be removed to enable the overlay to match the existing asphalt, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and drains.
Any areas that require more attention will be accessed and base patched. The resurfaced area is thoroughly cleaned and a tack coat applied to improve the bond between pavement layers. A new asphalt layer is then applied over the restructured surface, compacted, and smoothed for a beautiful, fresh finish.
