At Superior Asphalt, Inc. we understand the importance of having a superior product in order to achieve a long lasting pavement result. That’s why we source only the highest grade raw materials available and we never sacrifice quality to save a few dollars. Our skilled lab technicians adhere to strict MDOT and federal guidelines in their mix design and our freshly manufactured asphalt is tested daily for quality. At Superior Asphalt, Inc. we strive to be the best and we believe that starts with manufacturing the finest product available in the market. The following products are available in both our Grand Rapids and Lansing locations:

Hot-Mix Asphalt (HMA)

Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) is a combination of approximately 95% stone, sand, or gravel bound together by 5% asphalt cement, a product of crude oil. Asphalt cement is heated and combined with the aggregate at an HMA facility. The resulting Hot Mix Asphalt is loaded into trucks for transport to the paving site. The trucks dump the Hot Mix Asphalt into hoppers located at the front of paving machines. The asphalt is placed, and then compacted using a heavy roller, which is driven over the asphalt. Traffic is generally permitted on the pavement as soon as the pavement has cooled.

Winter Hot Mix

At Superior Asphalt, Inc., our top of the line Hot Mix Asphalt is available year round. During the summer months, we collect and store millings and any unused quantities of our specially formulated Hot Mix Asphalt from each job site. During the winter months we recycle this material to make a one of a kind, Hot Mix Asphalt which we make available to our customers as a pothole repair alternative to cold patch. If you have a pothole at least two inches deep and dry, our Winter Hot Mix will hold longer than any cold patch option available on the market.

UPM Cold-Mix Asphalt

UPM Permanent Pavement Repair Materials is a cold patch asphalt mix that can be used by municipalities, contractors and business owners to fill potholes and repair roads. Cold patch asphalt is a preferred method for patching potholes today because it’s easy to use and doesn’t require any heavy machinery. In fact, all you need is a shovel and a tamping tool. Another benefit of our cold mix asphalt patch is that it can be used year round on highways, roads, driveways, and more. Winter, spring, summer, and fall – UPM Cold Asphalt Repair Material keeps on working and stays workable!
